Sponsorly ("we", "our", or "us") is a Chrome extension that checks whether a job offers visa sponsorship and, optionally, tailors your resume with AI. This policy explains exactly what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. We built Sponsorly to be privacy-respecting by default — we only act on the pages you explicitly analyze.
1. Information We Collect
Job posting data (when you click "Analyze")
- Job posting URL
- Company / employer name
- Job title and job description text
- Job location and employment type
- The detected job platform (e.g. LinkedIn, Workday)
- Timestamp of the analysis
This data is read from the job page you are viewing only at the moment you trigger an analysis. We do not run in the background or scrape pages you don't analyze.
Account information (if you sign in with Google)
- Your email address, name, and profile picture, provided by Google when you choose to sign in with Google OAuth
- This is used to authenticate you, enforce fair-use limits, and (for eligible accounts) enable AI resume tailoring
You can also sign in with a private access token instead of Google. Authentication tokens are stored locally in your browser's extension storage and are sent only to our own API to verify your requests.
AI resume tailoring (optional feature)
- When you use resume tailoring, the job description is sent to our AI to generate a resume tailored to that posting, which is compiled into a downloadable PDF
- We store a count of how many resumes you have tailored (per day and in total) to display your usage and enforce limits
Usage data
- Aggregate counts of analyses and tailored resumes, used for fair-use limits and product analytics
2. How We Use Your Data
- Analyze job descriptions with AI and pattern matching to estimate visa-sponsorship likelihood
- Search our H1B database for a company's historical sponsorship record
- Generate a tailored resume when you request it
- Authenticate you and apply fair-use limits
- Improve our prediction accuracy and produce aggregate trends on job-market sponsorship
We do NOT
- Sell your data to third parties
- Show you ads or use advertising trackers
- Track your general browsing history — only the job pages you explicitly analyze
- Collect keystrokes, passwords, or data from pages where you never click "Analyze"
3. Data Storage & Retention
- All data is transmitted over HTTPS to our backend API at api.sponsorcheck.work
- Job analyses and account records are stored in our Supabase (PostgreSQL) database
- We retain analysis data to power historical insights and improve our models; you may request deletion at any time (see Section 7)
- Data is hosted on reputable cloud infrastructure with industry-standard security controls
4. Third-Party Services
Sponsorly relies on a small number of trusted providers to function:
5. Permissions We Request
The extension requests only the permissions it needs:
- activeTab / scripting — to read the job posting on the current tab when you click "Analyze"
- storage — to keep you signed in and remember your local preferences
- identity — to support optional Google sign-in
6. Data Security
- HTTPS/TLS encryption for all data in transit
- Token- and OAuth-based API authentication
- Access controls and routine monitoring
- Data minimization — we collect only what the features require
7. Your Rights & Choices
- Use the free H1B database search without signing in
- Stop all data collection at any time by uninstalling the extension
- Sign out to remove your stored authentication from the browser
- Request a copy or deletion of your data by emailing us (see Section 10)
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under the GDPR or CCPA, including access, correction, deletion, and the right to object. We honor these requests.
8. Children's Privacy
Sponsorly is not intended for anyone under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as the product evolves. Material changes will be posted here with a new effective date. Continued use after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
